Irish Soda Bread Recipe

Just because St. Patrick’s Day is over, doesn’t mean the Irish recipes have to stop!!!  Here’s a recipe for Irish Soda Bread that I got from a friend from my Bridal Shower.  I did swap out the margarine in the original recipe for butter, since I love baking with butter.

It was the first time I ever made Irish Soda Bread, and it turned out fantastic!  Since it turned out so good, I thought I would share it here as well.  Enjoy!  Thanks again for the great recipe, Jackie!!  I will definitely be making this one again!!

Irish Soda Bread

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Total Time: 40 minutes

Yield: 1 round loaf of bread

Irish Soda Bread


  • 2 and 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 tablespoons baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup raisins
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seeds
  • 8 ounces of plain yogurt
  • Milk (just a bit for brushing on top)


  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Mix your flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt together.
  • Add in your melted butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  • Next, add in your caraway seeds and yogurt.
  • Finally, stir in your raisins.
  • Knead the dough until smooth.
  • Shape into a large ball and then flatten slightly.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut an "X" into the top.
  • Place on a greased cookie sheet and brush the top with milk.
  • Bake in 350° oven for 35 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and cook on wire rack.
