About the Author/Chef:

My name is BA Haggerty. I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and met the love of my life, Patrick, on a beautiful spring day in 2005 while in college at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. I was “the girl next door,” literally…we were next door neighbors! From the moment we met, there was an instant connection and we knew it was something special. We got married on May 21, 2011. I grew up with a love of writing, but never pursued a career in that area. I graduated from college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and a double minor in Spanish and International Business. I got into recruiting right out of college and am currently a corporate recruiter, which has nothing to do with writing OR food, but I love my job! I get to help people find their dream job every day, which is a wonderful thing to be able to do!

I started Food Marriage in October 2011 because I love to write and because I love food! (I also needed a new hobby after getting married. While engaged, all my free time went to wedding planning…and in the months following, I found myself with a lot of extra time on my hands!)

That extra time didn’t last forever though! We welcomed our first beautiful baby girl into the world in January 2015.  I always knew that Food Marriage would evolve with my life and now I can add Mommy Blogging to my repertoire! Adjusting to being a mom, working full time outside the home, and spending about 3 hours a day commuting was a challenge. There were some nights when I was lucky if I could scrounge up cheese and crackers for dinner, let alone cook a great meal and blog about it. The blog took a seat on the back burner for a bit, while I figured out how to juggle everything.

In my long commutes to work, I discovered podcasts for the first time. I devoured ones about blogging and entrepreneurship. Everything I listened to seemed to tell me that if I could just find 5 hours a week to dedicate to my passion, I would be successful. The thing was, I physically didn’t have any time left at the end of any day. And if I did have time, I was spending it with my family.

Soon after our daughter turned 1, we found out we were expecting our second child! This time around, I knew I needed to make some life changes. I hated the fact that I wasn’t around for breakfast, lunch, or dinner with our daughter (shout out to my husband for his amazing support during this time! He was really holding down the fort at home!) I looked into my options and was blessed to be given an opportunity to stay in the recruiting field, drop my hours to part-time, and start working from home. Just cutting my commute alone gave me back an extra 15 hours a week with my family!

Instead of things slowing down, they sped up a bit.  We sold our 2 bedroom condo, packed everything up, and moved to a new home just a month before our newest addition, another baby girl was born in December 2016. She is a beautiful ray of sunshine and we are so excited that our two girls will be able to grow up as best friends! Now that we are settling into our new normal, I’m jumping back into blogging! I couldn’t be more excited!!!
