Wedding Wednesday: Cute Card for a Generic Gift

Everyone knows I like to give unique gifts.  But sometimes time constraints make me get a generic gift off the wedding registry.  Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  Getting something off the registry ensures that you are getting a present  that you know the couple wants!  This past weekend, I had a bridal shower to go to and decided to purchase a toaster from the registry.

However, even though I got a “boring” gift, I was able to find the PERFECT card to go with it!  I stopped in a CVS to pick up a couple things, happened to wander through the card aisle, and saw it!  It said, “Blend two lives together.  Toast to the wonderful couple!”  So fitting for the gift of the toaster!  It suddenly makes a generic gift cute!

Congratulations Amanda & Chris.  Wishing you a lifetime of happiness and hope you enjoy your new toaster!!!

Wedding Wednesday: Paris Themed Bridal Shower Cake Pops!

Since friends and family have started seeing my cake pop work, I’ve been getting more requests to do some cake pop jobs on the side.  This is really exciting for me because it give me the chance to create different types of cake pops that I would have never thought of doing before!

What’s funny about the way I work with my cake pops is that I never know exactly what I am going to do until I start doing it.  I have the general theme idea in my head, and then I create as I go!  Recently, I was asked to make cake pops for a bridal shower.  I was told that they had a Paris theme for the shower and that they would like the pops in black and white if possible.

This cake pop order was for 50 cake pops, so I made half in chocolate and half in vanilla.  It made it easy to determine which pops were which flavors…Black = Chocolate.  White = Vanilla. For the decorations, I thought it would be neat to have various different designs throughout the entire display.  So I did some with black sugar crystals, some with clear sugar crystals, some with white nonpareils, and some with white or black candy drizzle.  And then the stars of the display were the plain white cake pops that I drew little Eiffel Towers on with a black edible ink marker!  (I recommend Americolor Gourmet Writers…they work the best!)

For the actual display, I found a Paris-themed photo box at the craft store which I used for the base.  And then I found some scrapbooking paper that was labeled as “French Script” to use as the background for the display.  I have no idea what it said because I don’t know French at all!  I hope it said something nice, haha!!  The script background did end up looking really cool and really contributed to the overall look and feel of the display.

I finished off the cake pop display with some embellished and raised Paris-theme stickers, which really tied everything together.  After making this display, I totally fell in love with it….now I want to go to Paris and see the REAL Eiffel Tower!!!!

Wedding Wednesday: Travel Themed Bridal Shower

So you’ve been getting some sneak peeks of my friend Nicole’s Bridal shower over the last few weeks on “Wedding Wednesdays”.  As I have mentioned, she and her fiancé are world travelers (hence the gift I gave of the Map Collage Frame).  So it only seemed fitting that she have a travel-themed bridal shower!

Nicole’s bridesmaids were very creative with the decorations at the shower.  Their attention to detail definitely shined, such as wrapping flower vases with maps and placing pictures of the couple’s travels on the tables.  They also created signs printed on maps for different things such as the dessert table, gift table, and more.  Suitcase-shaped cookies served as favors and were placed inside their own suitcase with a “Bon Voyage ” sign!  Check out some of the pictures from her shower day!

Wedding Wednesday: Bridal Shower Dessert Idea

One of the desserts featured at my friend Nicole’s Bridal Shower last month were cupcakes put together in the shape of a wedding dress!  My friend, Allison, created this delicious dessert.  All you need to do is make 22 cupcakes in your favorite flavor, arrange them in the shape of a wedding dress, and then frost them.  You can also add some non-edible accessories such as pearls and a brooch to be a belt on the dress!

Wedding Wednesday: Gift Idea for the Traveler

A few months ago, I asked my friend Nicole if she would prefer a gift or money for her upcoming wedding.  First, she said money.  But then she changed her mind and said, “From you?  Definitely a gift!”  She knows she can count on me to give unique presents.  With her wedding still about a month away, I still have time to come up with a creative wedding gift.  But in the meantime, I came up with a fun gift idea for her bridal shower.

Map Collage Frame Gift Idea @FoodMarriage

Nicole and her fiancé LOVE to travel (he actually proposed to her in South Korea!), so I created a collage frame to showcase all of the places they have been together!  I purchased a frame with 12 smaller 2″x3″ openings and then one larger 4″x6″ opening.  It was actually a frame that is meant to display 12 years of school photos and then a graduation picture in the largest opening.

I searched for different maps online: Cancun, Los Angeles and San Diego, San Francisco, Paris, Prague, Munich, Madrid, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Macchu Picchu in Peru, South Korea, and Hong Kong.  I printed the maps and cut them to fit in the frame.  Not all of the maps looked alike – some were a little cartoony with little drawings of landmarks, some looked official, and some had different fonts and colors.  I think the mixing of the different map styles enhanced the creative look and feel of the entire collage.

Lastly, in the largest opening, I took an outline of Pennsylvania with a purple background.  (One of Nicole’s wedding colors is purple and her living room has purple accent pillows!)  I inserted a heart onto the map where she and her fiancé bought their home, and wrote the name of their hometown, “Morgantown, PA.”  Not only did it turn out absolutely incredible, but Nicole actually cried when she opened it!!  I definitely succeeded with this gift!
