About the Author:
My name is BA Haggerty. I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and met the love of my life, Patrick, on a beautiful spring day in 2005 while in college at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. I was “the girl next door,” literally…we were next door neighbors! From the moment we met, there was an instant connection and we knew it was something special. We got married in the spring of 2011.
I grew up with a love of writing, but never pursued a career in that area. I graduated from college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and a double minor in Spanish and International Business. I got into recruiting right out of college and spent 13 years in the field.
I had a mix of agency and corporate recruitment, with the majority of my time spent in the Healthcare Industry (shout out to all the amazing Nurses out there!) Recruitment had nothing to do with writing OR food, but I loved my job! I got to help people find their dream job every day, which is a wonderful thing to be able to do!
I started Food Marriage in October 2011 because I love to write and because I love food! (I also needed a new hobby after getting married. While engaged, all my free time went to wedding planning…and in the months following, I found myself with a lot of extra time on my hands!)
That extra time didn’t last forever though! We are currently the proud parents of three little girls – ages 1, 4 and 6. Food Marriage spent many years on the back burner while we went through many transitions. In the years since becoming a mom:
- I worked a corporate job full time 40 hours a week outside of the home + 3 hours a day commuting to the city (Philly!)
- I worked part-time 24 hours a week remotely from home
- And then most recently, I left my corporate job in February 2020 to stay at home with the girls (my youngest was 3 months old at the time)
I can offer a unique perspective because I truly have experienced life from these different angles. I’ve been the mom with a hectic job, a long commute, and struggling to get more than cheese and crackers on the table with what little energy I had left. I’ve been the mom with the dream set-up of working part-time remotely from home (before it was the norm). And now I’m experiencing the SAHM life – which trust me, isn’t as easy as I thought it would be!
I always knew that Food Marriage would evolve with my life! While there were certainly many years that went by with no new recipes or updates,. I’m happy I maintained it and kept it active. Now, I am BACK and SO excited to keep sharing more recipes and bits about our life with you!
