I had such a fun time at my friend Nicole’s Bachelorette Party a couple weeks ago! We went down to the shore and stayed in Avalon, NJ for the weekend. We had a lot of great things planned, but one of my favorites was going to the Cape May Winery.
Cape May was just a short half hour drive from where we were staying in Avalon so it was easy to get to for a late afternoon tour and tasting. We arrived and got a very informative tour and learned about things like the differences between making wine in stainless steel barrels versus making wine in oak barrels. And while we were gaining this new knowledge, we got to taste wines made by the two different processes side by side. And you could definitely tell the difference! I learned that you can taste more of the true fruit flavor in the wine made in the stainless steel.
We got to walk around the vineyard, which was beautiful! We saw the grapes on the vines and learned about how they harvest them. One really neat piece of advice we were given – if you ever have the chance to try an Ice Wine ….definitely do it! Ice Wine is a very sweet dessert wine that is made by harvesting the grapes while they are frozen solid on the vine. Because of the conditions required for Ice Wine, it is only made in just a few places around the country (Germany and Canada are the biggest producers). It can also be quite expensive. Unfortunately, the Cape May Winery does not have the climate conducive to making Ice Wine, however, I am glad to have learned about something new and hope to try it at some point in my life!
After the tour concluded, we got to sit on the back patio. They had a couple tables set up for us and brought out a huge place of different cheeses and crackers (I was in heaven!). It was a beautiful afternoon at the winery and they even had live music playing! Our guide continued to bring out different wines for us to taste and told us all about them.
The Cape May Winery was a great place to visit! With very reasonable prices, extremely pleasant staff, and a gorgeous setting, it was the perfect place to hang out with the girls for Nicole’s Bachelorette Party. I got to ask a lot of questions and learned so much! And of course, I HAD to leave with some wine of my own. I purchased a couple bottles of the “Lighthouse White,” which I hope to make a summertime sangria with sometime soon!!
Happy Bachelorette Party Weekend Nicole! Now I can’t wait until your Wedding is here!!!!
