Best and Worst School Lunches of All Time

I was watching the Rachael Ray show yesterday and she had Joy Behar on as a guest. One of the questions Rachael asked Joy was what her best and worst school lunch of all time was.  (I forgot what Joy’s favorite was, but her worst was an egg salad sandwich).

I thought this was a great question to bring back to the blog!

My personal best school lunches were on any holiday, but more specifically Valentine’s Day.  My mom would make me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and then would use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut my sandwich into a heart.  She would then toss in some heart-shaped candies as well as some homemade heart-shaped cookies.  She would also put Valentine’s day stickers on my juice box and add in a little love note!!

Heart-Shaped Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich

My worst (and funniest) school lunch was one time when my dad had to pack it.  I’m the oldest of five kids, so one time when my mom was off having another baby, my dad was in charge of making lunches.  Not to stereotype, but dads are typically not the best at knowing what to pack for a school lunch.  When I got to school and opened up my lunch box, I was surprised to find a whole sleeve of crackers and an entire can of Easy Cheese! (Yes, the cheese in a can that you squirt out).  I totally felt like the coolest kid in class…who else got entire cans of squirty cheese!?  But as far as nutritional value for a child, not the best option he could have picked, haha.

Now, to my readers out there...I’d love to hear what your best and worst school lunches of all time were!  Whether they were straight from the cafeteria or home made, I’m sure there are some great stories out there!!!  You can respond by posting in the comments section.  Can’t wait to hear from you!

xoxo,
BA

I always bought lunch at school, but ravioli was the worst. I think they were filled with shredded paper from the school rather than cheese.

I got the same thing for lunch for $2 at Archbishop Wood. Pizza and Fries. Bet ever.

The best school lunch EVER was the chicken turnovers at Southern Lehigh High School. They were covered in gravy and served with instant mashed potatoes. I miss them!

Mmmm…chicken turnovers sound yummy! I don’t think my high school, Lansdale Catholic, ever got that fancy, haha.
