I honestly love where I live. Being in the Greater Philadelphia area gives you a lot of options. Drive two hours and you’re at the beach. Drive two hours in the opposite direction and you’re in the mountains. Drive two hours south and you’re in Washington D.C. Or drive two hours north and your’e in New York City!!!!
My sister, Sarah, is a hair stylist. She’s been taking classes every year at the Redken Exchange. Last year, I went up for one night while she was there. But this year, I went up for a whole week! While she was busy taking classes, I was out exploring the city with my mom and aunt. And then at nights, our lives revolved around food!
Before I get into some of the fabulous places I went this year while in New York City, I HAVE to share a restaurant with you that I went to last year. It is too amazing not to mention! Last year, my mom, sister, and I went to Bobby Flay’s Bar Americain. As huge Food Network fans, we were SO excited to check out a Bobby Flay restaurant! I can honestly say it was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to!
Their menu was very easy to find something right away that we wanted to order. We started off with a shellfish cocktail trio of Shrimp-Tomatillo, Crab-Coconut, and Lobster-Avocado. YUM! For my meal, I chose a mouthwatering Philadelphia-Style Strip Steak with provolone cheese and caramelized onions. My mom got Ricotta Crepes with Grilled Asparagus and a Cherry Tomato Sauce. And my sister decided on a Rack of Pork with Creamed Corn. We decided to add a couple sides to share, one of which was a delicious Cauliflower and Goat Cheese Gratin.
I can honestly say that we spent a good three hours dining at Bar Americain. I usually find myself rushing through a meal, without stopping for a breath. It is because I am always in a rush for something, or starving! My sister and I tried a new technique of setting our fork down between bites. It gave us the chance to really enjoy the food as well as the company! The environment of the restaurant was relaxing and inviting and the service was excellent. We enjoyed every single morsel of food and every single minute we spent together enjoying it!
When going to New York City this year, I really wanted to make it back to Bar Americain because I had such a good experience before. However, in the spirit of trying new things and seeing new places, we did not go again. But I will definitely make it there again sometime in the future! I promise myself that!!
