Dinner Idea: Thyme Grilled Sirloin Steak with Steamed Broccoli

I always try to hit up the sales at the grocery store, especially when there are buy one get one free sales in the meat department.  I usually end up buying whatever meat is on sale that week.  This week, sirloin steak was buy one get one free.  One sirloin steak was about $10, so I ended up saving $10 by basically getting two for the price of one!!  We cooked up one large steak for dinner this week and saved the other one in the freezer for another time.  That’s definitely the way to shop!!

Every time I cook steak, I never know what to do aside from cracking some fresh salt and pepper onto the meat.  I have so many different seasonings in my cabinet that I never use and don’t really know what to do with.  This time I decided to whip out some thyme!!  I added it to both sides of my meat along with salt and pepper and grilled in in my grill pan.  I then also steamed up some broccoli, tossed it in a little butter and salt and then served it!  The meal was absolutely delicious!

One thing that my mom taught me is that presentation of food is everything!!  Even if you aren’t hosting a party, even if it’s just you and your husband sitting down together by yourselves, the way the food is presented can make it all the more appetizing!  So what I did was pull out one of my new serving plates from Crate & Barrel, placed the steak in the middle of the plate and then sprinkled the broccoli around the edges.  It makes you feel like you are sitting down to a fancy restaurant in your own home!!
