How to Make Garlic Bread

There are definitely days that I “cheat” a little in the kitchen.  I mean, seriously, when you’re working full time and have a long commute on top of that, who has the time to make an entire meal from scratch every single night?  There’s nothing wrong with grabbing a frozen lasagna from the freezer section of your grocery store and baking it in the oven!! And what better way to add to your frozen lasagna by learning how to make garlic bread!

This post may contain affiliate links. If you click a link and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission.

That’s exactly what I did this week – I bought a frozen Stouffer’s meat lasagna for dinner. Then, to make it feel a little more homey and personal, I made some homemade garlic bread to go with it!!  It still makes you feel like you are putting in some effort in the kitchen and you get a delicious result!

Want to make it extra special? Serve it in a nice basket lined with a decorative towel. These simple handwoven wicker baskets remind me of ones my mom used when we were growing up! I also love this Arrows Bread Basket with leather handles for its decoration and ease of carrying to the dinner table. When you line your basket with a towel, leave the ends hanging over the sides. Once your bread is in the basket, take the ends and wrap them over the top. This will help keep your bread warm!

Here’s my recipe for how to make homemade garlic bread…

Garlic Bread

Prep Time: 2 minutes

Cook Time: 8 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Yield: 4

Garlic Bread

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of thickly sliced bread
  • 1/2 stick of butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon parsley flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°
  • Let your 1/2 stick butter sit out to get soft OR put in a bowl in the microwave for about 15 seconds (this will be long enough to soften it, but will not liquefy it)
  • Add your parsley flakes and garlic powder to the butter and mix together with a spoon until blended well.
  • Use your newly made spread to butter both sides of each piece of bread.
  • Place bread onto a non-stick baking sheet.
  • Bake in the 350° for 4 minutes on one side, then flip your bread over and bake for an additional 4 minutes on the other side.
  • Enjoy your golden-brown, delicious & homemade garlic bread!!

PS. My husband loved this garlic bread.  If you remember, he is a picky eater, which means this was a GREAT recipe!!
PRO TIP: Don’t have garlic powder or want to use fresh garlic? You can do this too! Just dice up a clove of garlic or put one through a garlic press and mix it in with the butter! You will get a stronger flavor this way.

Made this tonight and it definitely took more than four minutes to get brown. It took eighteen minutes all together to get toasted, but it wasnt that golden brown. We could barely taste the garlic in it too. I will for sure make it again, just I will adjust the heat up on the oven a little bit and add more garlic powder.

Thanks for the comment! If the oven is at the right temperature it should only take about eight minutes total (four on one side, flip, then four on the other side). Were you sure to fully pre-heat the oven before putting the bread in? If you put the bread in before it is fully heated, it will definitely take longer.

i too am trying this and the bread is in the oven and just for one side is already taking 8+ minutes. My oven was at 350 when I started.

Hi Lindsay! Maybe try turning up the heat to 400° ? Also – the bread does not necessarily have to turn golden-brown; feel it to see if it feels toasted…if so you can take it out even if it’s not golden.

Tried it! Really good stuff. My husband likes the bread more crunchy and the butter less wet so i left it in for about 10 min without flipping. Thank you!

I usually add olive oil/butter/diced garlic/scallions & a light touch of salt for taste. It will taste much better!

This was very good. I cooked it a little longer because I like it crispy.
    My husband liked it too!
